Dog Friendly Hotels, and Beaches

I have a friend who wants to bring his two labs (Labrador Retrievers) along on vacation. Most of the dog newsgroups are cluttered with spam. I'm asking here. Do you know of any dog friendly hotels, outdoor cafes, beaches. Labs love the water and love to swim.

The idea behind this vacation is to avoid kenneling the labs, or leaving them in a hotel room most of the time. My friend wants to bring them along so they can interact in a new place. They're very friendly and very intelligent.
