In my opinion all the places to stay in the park are convenient to something. The question is is the something what you want. Print a park map. Identify the housing locations. Identify things which you want to see. Look.
Personally I would likely spend 2 nights near Old Faithful and the third to the north. But that's based on the sights that I like. Make your own judgments. As was said book early.

If you are going this year, you may already have problems getting
reservations. That may answer your question.
I think you already know the issues. The conflicting advice isn't
wrong, its just from people with different opinions. Just decide what
you want. The longer you wait the more trouble you'll have getting
reservations.
We're going in July and spending 3 nights before going to Glacier NP.
We're staying at the Old Faithful Inn since its kind of Centrally
located.

We are planning a trip to spend 3~4 days in Yellowstone. I got
conflicting advises on whether to stay in one lodge or stay at a
different place each night. By staying at one lodge, we don't need to
pack/unpack and check-in/out every day. On the other hand, we do need to
back track to at the end of each day. Are there other factors I should
look into to?
Thanks.
