My wife & I (no kids) are planning to spend a couple of weeks in early AprilYou won't find much to "must see" on that route. The Space Center, some
driving between San Antonio and New Orleans. Can anyone tell me the "must
see" things we shouldn't miss. Best beaches etc ?
time in Cajun country, and some plantation visits toward the end are
about what I would recommend. There won't be much beach on the direct
path. If you drop down to the valley around Brownsville then Padre
Island has great beaches. The Spring Break kids should be gone.
If you like birding then the area around Houston provides great spots.
For simple nature the piney woods along the Louisiana border are good
but the tourist stuff is still recovering from Rita.
I can suggest a side trip to Avery Island in Louisiana (I hope
the hurricanes didn't hit it too bad).

Besides producing Tobasco Sauce, the "island" is a sort of animal
sanctuary, so watch out for alligators while driving around.
