Need help planning for a roadtrip from San Jose to Canada

When: some time from end of June until beginning of August 2006. When
is a good time?
Number of people: 3 (including 1 teen) or 6 (including 1 teen and 1
infant)

We want to take a week roadtrip (or longer if necessary) to Canada. I
would like your recommendations of places to visit, things to do, and
places to stay overnight at. Any tips and tricks I should know of to
make this trip a pleasant one? We have not been to Canada or anywhere
north of SF.

I would like to at least pass by Seattle to visit the Fish Market.
(I've heard so much about it.) Beside that, I'm open to anything. We
don't even have to stay in hotels every night. We can stay at some
nice campground.

Thank you for your help!
