Halloween is dying out in france.
Hi,
my mother tells the story of her first year in the US as a member of the French Embassy staff.
she was at home and the doorbell rang... with this oddly dressed kid yelling "trickertreat"... she had no idea.
went to the neighbors shortly after to ask what this was all about, it was their son and they explained the concept to her....
at this time (1945) there was NOTHING like this in France.
she turned off the lights that night :-}
It was frowned on by the church as being a pagan rite. Only the church is allowed to propagate fairy tales.
I think it's dying out because it was a fashion rather than being a long standing tradition.
