Actually, that is NOT what I said - I remembered it as being about $0.85, the first trip I made to Europe after it became the accepted currency. (But IIRC, that was late spring or early autumn.)

On the New Year's day when Euros became the functional currency, the exchange
rate was $0.90 per Euro. We happened to be in Strasbourg at the time...
