Maybe. Maybe not. I have German relatives by marriage. There
seems to be an Ostrich view of some sections of their
history.

After encountering German tour buses, full of either
tourists or schoolchildren, at nearly every major castle,
cathedral or other ancient site I visited in Czech, Slovakia
and Poland their absence was noticeable at one major site.

I was at Auschwitz for several hours in 2006. There were bus
groups from all over the place - Japanese, Chinese, Polish
(of course), Czech, even Russian. But no Germans.

Later, when I was converting my camera memory chip to a CD
in a camera shop in a Bavarian town (name forgotten) the
shop attendant demanded that we view the CD together to be
sure it was OK. I thought that was an excellent customer
service technique. When we got to the Auschwitz shots he
changed from affable and chatty to stone-faced. After
viewing just the first few he wordlessly removed the CD from
the computer, put it in a plastic cover, gave it to me and
walked to the back of the shop and disappeared through a
door.
