You've missed the point.

If they could produce something that would charge a fraction of a cent for,
say, sending an email, most of us wouldn't even notice, except that spam
would disapear overnight...

I haven't missed any point. The services I mentioned all can charge
whatever they want. If they could make billions by charging a cent,
they would. There is zero proof that charging that amount for
anything would generate the Gates sized fortune being maintained.
Zero.



As I said, the people who run something called 'Second Life' are getting
there, which is why they've managed to raise a huge amount of venture
capital for what is essentially a free Internet game...

Yeah lots of people invest in things that will make no money alright.

Nobody ever invests in anything expecting no return.

Of course, they do. They're called non-profits.
