Carnival worker charged with having sex with 15-year-old

"ALEDO -- A 19-year-old carnival worker who came to Aledo for the Mercer
County Fair faces criminal charges for allegedly having sex with a
15-year-old girl and giving her alcohol.

Demetrius D. Bracey, of Jackson, Miss., was charged Monday in Mercer County
Circuit Court with four offenses: felony criminal sexual abuse; obstructing
justice, a felony; misdemeanor criminal sexual abuse; and unlawful delivery
of alcoholic liquor to a minor, a misdemeanor.

He had traveled to the Mercer County Fair while employed as a candy-maker
for a taffy vendor, a job that paid $275 a week, according to a police
official and court records.

The felony criminal sexual abuse charge stems from Mr. Bracey allegedly
committing an act of sexual conduct with the victim knowing that she was
unable to give consent, according to the affidavit. The misdemeanor criminal
sexual abuse charge is for allegedly having sex with a victim who is between
13 and 16 years old when the defendant is less than five years older than
the victim, according to the affidavit.

Mr. Bracey is charged with unlawful delivery of alcoholic liquor to a minor
for allegedly giving beer to the minor victim, according to court documents.

Mr. Bracey is charged with obstructing justice, a felony, for allegedly
giving false information to Detective Jeff Dale, an investigator with the
Mercer County Sheriff's Department, according to court documents and
testimony.

Police began investigating the case early Sunday after the alleged victim
told deputies she was sexually abused at the Mercer County Fairgrounds,
according to the sheriff's department.

When Mr. Bracey was questioned, he first said that he was unaware of any
girls, according to Detective Dale's testimony during the first appearance
Monday.

Later, Mr. Bracey admitted to having sexual intercourse, Detective Dale
testified.

The alleged victim told authorities that Mr. Bracey gave her alcohol, which
the defendant denied, according to Detective Dale.

Mr. Bracey remained in the Mercer County Jail on Monday afternoon in lieu of
a $50,000 bail, with 10 percent needed to apply.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 23".

Wow -- I'm wondering if these were the girls that were there when I was
trying to buy my Taffy-- I guess Mom's should realize that kids this age DO
need supervision--I heard the girls given out there names & cell phone #'s
as I had to wait for my change because these girls were flirten with the
workers---

Did she tell the police before she told her parents? Why was a 15 yr old at
the fair alone long enough for him to feed her alcohol and have sex with
her? Was he aware that she was 15? I've seen some of these young girls
made-up to look more like 20 yr olds and their parents allow it. Even though
they look older they don't have the knowledge or the experience to handle
the situations that they can get themselves into, and thats where the
parents are failing them.

it is not unusual for teenagers to go to fairs without adults. it has been
normalcy as long as I have been on this earth my forty plus years.

I dont know why people think it's safe to drop their kids off at carnivals.
Outdoor venue, drunks hitting the beer tents, lots of secluded areas like
barns and corn fields a foot away, and icky carneys do not a safe place
make. Do you drop your kids off down in the District? My husband and I took
our kids, let them run around with their friends and have their fun, and
kept a watch at a safe distance.

It may be against the law, but she knew EXACTLY what she was doing.
Don't blame her folks either, at 15 years of age there are many times that
you are left on your own. Some of you act as if you keep your 15 year olds
within 10 feet of you at all times...get over it.
He should be punished for his offenses, but stop acting as if she was
innocent in the whole thing.

Everyone wants to blame the carnie saying that he took advantage and what
not. I was at the carnival like others and I see the way that young girls
cake on the makeup and wear short skirts, low cut tops, high heels and then
they flirt with guys like they are looking for something. I am not saying
that thi is right, but other carnies have said that the local girls were
trying to "score" beer and party it up every night after the carnival was
over. I have reason to believe that the sex in this case was consensual and
her parents found out so she has to cover it up. It happens all of the time
and people know it. I think both the girl and guy in this case should be
subjected to lie detector tests to determine who is telling the truth and
who isn't.
For those that think these teenage girls aren't out there looking for a good
time, go to any fair this summer and see for yourself what they are up to.

I was a 15 year old girl once...and nor was I a good one! When you are 15
and a guy is 19....it doesn't seem like any age difference...as men are
immature to begin with...All I can say is that this girl wanted to get drunk
and more than likely consented! Not saying I went around doing the nasty
with whom ever, where ever, but when I was 15...I sure wasnt a virgin!

i was there and the female was hanging around the taffy stand and when he
was on break she was right there by his side and after everything was shut
down and they was all tearing downing she was still there and the way she
was talking,like she was alot older than she was it was horrible if she was
my daughter she would of had her mouth washed with soap.it was horrible to
hear those words.and yes where was her parents at that time of nite for he
to be there by herself .parents you need to be taking responsiblity for your
children and where they are and what they are doing let alone what they say!

Unfortunately, at 15 this young lady is probably more sexually advanced than
any parent or any adult would like to admit. I'm sure she knew exactly what
she was doing. If I read the article correctly the worker was 19 and she was
15, intellectually there probably isn't much difference in maturity levels.
I am shocked by what I see and hear these days about friends with benefits,
etc. Parents talk to your kids, I'm not sure of all the particulars but it
has something to do with the color of bracelets these young girls wear on
their arms. The colors determine just how far a girl will go with a guy and
I mean oral sex or intercourse. Parents I urge you do some investigation,
ask questions and don't stop until you get answers. It's the safety and
welfare of your children that is at stake.

Well why did this girl go anywhere with this guy in the first place? It
doesn't sound like she went kicking and screaming. She may not have wanted
sex, but she did want something and she knew what she was doing. 15 or not,
it's all about the choices we make.

the STATE tells the parents they can go to jail,if they punish the kids,,if
they do more than talk to them,an some needs more than talk....maybe the
STATE should be a little at fault too, since they meddle in a familys
life...when it comes to SEX at that age, you would have to watch them 100%
