Italian food is of course excellent (probably the best in the world),
but anything else made here is never particuarly good. I've had crappy
Thai, Chinese, ok Indian, mediocre kebab, reasonable north African
stuff, but nothing that would ever make an Italian change their ways.

from what i hear from another expat in Italy nothing would make
italians change thier ways! She has cooked various foreign dishes,
which after much questioning as to the content are eaten with
enthusiasm. Then they go right back to thier regular food. Italy seems
to be very conservative on food.

They are extremely conservative. It's hard just to get an Italian to
eat something from another region, let alone another country.

I cooked a bunch of Italian vegetables for my in-laws in a wok, and
they decided they didn't like it, just because the pan looked strange.

I agree its probably as good a cusine
as you will find, but I must say restaurants can easily start to get
repetitive after a week in an area. It doesnt bother me, but my wife
finds getting back to Londons variety a relief.

I don't find it too repetitive. There's plenty of variety, especially
with a bit of home cooking.

But are the young continuing this course?

Yes.
