I find the Netherlands to be about the cheapest country in rich Europe.
In Amsterdam you can easily eat for under 5 euro, and goods in shops are
cheap as well. And don't even try comparing Dutch rail fares (urban or
interurban) to those in the UK, it'll stop your heart.
I might add - just to help me make friends here - that the 5 euro meal
in Amsterdam will beat the pants off anything you could get in Spain for
that amount.
