just use a newsreader that will block all the threads you dont want to
read.
The trouble is, you then spend the majority of your time adding tokillfiles.
I kill all posts cross-posted to a politics group - that removes a lot
of weirdos.
Adding soc. cross-posts is also a good idea IMO. Nearly all the postings
that make it through my filters are on topic, or otherwise fine. I've
actually killfiled very few individuals- maybe a half dozen.

The problem is Google does zero moderating. This is an approach that
works most of the time but Google should at least institute some
process to delete the Off Topic posts/threads. When someone adds this
group to a list of groups we have no way to avoid the replies. Even
if we here ignore the OP we will see all the damn replies. Here is
where Google can help by removing the capability of doing a multi-
group post.
Some will whine "censorship", but it is not. In almost every case of
political OT postings the OP is demented in some way, usually
emotionally stunted.
The Google Groups reader doesn't offer filters. A person needs a
Newsreader to do filtering and who needs extra apps to take care of.

This is usenet. Use a newsreader with a filter.
