Hi,Our daughter was there over Christmas a few years back and did not enjoy the experience. She was on a tour staying at a hotel out in the suburbs. On Christmas Day there was virtually no public transport and the only food they could find was a Chinese restaurant.
I will be in Rome during Christmas time (23-28 Dec, 06) and was
wondering if the museums would be open during that time. I got little
by Googling around and there were a few confusing points that I came
across (some taling mainly about sinking in the celebrations, others
saying that most places/transport systems would be half-functional).
I basically wanted to visit St Peter's basilica and st peter's square
and maybe a couple of the standard tourist spots, see the must-see art
works. But is anything open during that time?

Apart from the festivities, what places can a tourist hope to see then
(in Rome and the Vatican)? I will actually be flying into Milan and
wanted to take a flight to Rome immediately to reach Rome around 23rd
morning to spend the next 5 days there. Would it be better to stay put
in Milan and forget about Rome? Venice maybe?
Thanks in advance for your inputs.
Best,
Anand
