Where can I find a zone-wise map of the the Dresden public transport
site? I coudn't locate it on the Dresden public transport site
(http://www.dvbag.de), though it's possible that I might have missed
it. Is there an English language version of this site available?
Couldn't find one.
Dresden belongs to the "VVO" fare cooperation whose web site is here:
http://www.vvo-online.de/de/
Sorry, no English version again.
A zone-wise map is here:
http://www.vvo-online.de/de/tickets_und_netz/fahrpreise/tarifzonen/index.aspx
A schematic map of Dresden local routes, with zone boundaries, is here:
http://www.dvbag.de/netz/Bilder/Li2006-07-24_mit060804.pdf
As you can see, Dresden itself is completely covered by zone 10.
On clicking the "Tages- und Familientageskarten" link, I realised that
there are at least two zones - one and two. What does the third entry,
"Verbundraum" mean?
"Verbundraum" means the complete VVO area, i.e. all the zones on the map.
Can someone translate the footnotes on this page
(http://www.dvbag.de/tarife/tages.asp?Kategorie=tages) for me?
1) Valid for up to 6 persons, with a maximum of two persons older than 14
years.
* Children between 6 and 14 years of age
** also valid for senior citizens (60 years and older).
*** Two neighboring zones, as printed on the ticket
In what zone are the major historical sites located?
As mentioned above, everything in Dresden is in zone 10. Sites outside
Dresden (e.g. Meissen) will most probably be in some other zone.
Is the
Familientageskarte valid on the cable car and funicular railway as
well?
Nope. Weekly passes _are_ valid, so if you plan to use the cable car
and/or funicular regularly you could buy a zone 10 weekly pass for EUR
16.50 per person. I think they are sold at ticket machines as well as
DB and DVB ticket offices.
Weekly passes are not bound to a calendar week but are valid on
the day you validate them and on the six following days.
All VVO tickets are valid on local trains within the zones covered.
In which zone is the airport?
Zone 10.
I will be arriving by train, however I
need to reach the airport from Waltherstrasse around 7 in the morning
on a Monday for departure from Dresden. From the dvbag site and
bahn.de, I gathered that one way to reach the airport could be to take
either route 1 ( is this a tram? ) or bus 94 to Bahnof Mitte and then
take the S2 S-Bahn to the Flughafen. Do I need to buy two separate
tickets for the two legs, or can I buy one consolidated ticket for the
airport before boarding either route 1 or 94?
A 1-zone ticket is enough for the complete trip (and route 1 is indeed
a tram, as well as all other routes with numbers below 50).
Does something think that taking a taxi to the airport is a better
option (there are two of us)? How much would a taxi from Waltherstrasse
to the airport cost?
About EUR 16; EUR 18 on Sundays.
Hope this helps ...
.... Martin
