Quite so. The worst effect of Western influence on Africa may be
introducing it to technologies that it cannot manage. So by reducing
death rates without reducing birth rates, the population explodes; and
by introducing technologies that allow the land to be stripped bare,
the land ends up stripped bare, because the people using these
technologies have no clue.
