Exactly what I was thinking. This government has shown an incerdible

Considering a similar state of affairs in the U.S. (and the
U.K., according to some of our posters from there), are we
perhaps observing a world-wide trend?

I fear so. I tend to think that the huge increase of the "entertainment"
industry has much to do with it. When politics go errands, the public
_must_ have some bone to chew in form of talk-shows, football, or
"terrorist red level alert".

In the early '80s, the newly-elected French socialist government opened
up the radio and television.

Admittedly, before then, there were only 2 national TV channels, 1
local, 3 national radios, a few private radios and some locals. All were
quite efficiently controlled by the political power.

The "opening" was meant to bring more impartailty and openness.

What's the result, 25 years later?

Never can be remebered such ties between a financial, capitalist sector
and the politics. Never have we been such openly lied with the left
hand, laughed at vbby the right hand.

There are a few lone battlers (Arte, France Culture) but they are
generally despised as being for the "elite".
