TAKE BOTH, DUMMY! Surely you've heard about "putting all one's eggs in one basket"?

As a matter of fact, you should get a second credit card from a second bank; you don't have to be a regular retail customer in order to hold one of their credit cards. Make your routine purchases with the older established one, and keep the new one strictly as an emergency credit reserve.

And make sure that whatever combination of cards you take with you covers at least two of the largest ATM / debit card systems (Cirrus, Exchange, etc.). That way you won't
be stuck somewhere in Lapland in the middle of the night with no cash and no shelter.

As to "which is the better deal?" -- It doesn't matter!!! You aren't some Colombian money launderer (I hope!) You aren't going to be converting millions of Euros, or pounds or dollars on a daily basis. Your cards are for your personal safety and convenience; don't then destroy their primary purpose by trying to use them for another, unachievable purpose -- outsmarting a Cray computer for nickels, and losing!

In any case, it is your HOME bank (actually, its Head Office) that ultimately sets the currency exchange rates that will show up on your monthly statements. Since this won't happen until 5 to 25 days AFTER your European purchases, the various exchange rates will have fluctuatd many times in the intervening period, and all your feverish calculations will count for nought.

Most importantly, you are going to Europe to travel, to appreciate and to learn, not to be some Third Under-Apprentice Gnome in Zurich. Your job is to be a tourist, theirs is to be bankers. Stick to your knitting!

There is some good advice in the midst of the spew which is likely the core of your being, you dumpy you. I thank you for the nuggets of wisdom you have delivered to me. Next time, if you feel like it why not be more caustic? Don't hold back that way we all get to know you better. You take care now and look both ways when you cross the street cause karma drives a truck.
