Anyone ever use one there? Are there service charges?

Page,
If it helps, I've used a NC debit card all over Europe. There are typically
a couple different fees when using your card this way.
If withdrawing cash ---
1> ATM machine at the destination may charge a fee. This is usually EUR
1-2.
2> VISA(in your case)/Mastercard currency conversion fee 1%. NC charges an
additional 2% on top of this.
3> Out-of-network fees, charged by National City, for not staying within the
NC ATM system. Usually about $1.50
If you are making Visa purchases with your debit card, really only number 2
applies. The first 1% fee is "hidden" --- not listed separate, but tacked
onto the purchase. The 2% NC fee is listed as a separate line item charge.
In the end, we've found that using our debit cards is by far the most
convenient and cost effective way for paying for things while overseas. You
should be withdrawing enough cash for roughly 3-4 days, or perhaps a week.
Considering that most people spend a fair bit on European vacations, the
fees are a very negligible part of the trip.
Hope this helps,
Keith
