No ISDN in your part of the world?

We have an ISDN line, but that's not what I call fast. Did you mean
ADSL? If so, no that isn't available here, and looks as though it
never will be. Telecom Italia has a monopoly on the installation of
equipment and they say the potential use in these "remote" areas
wouldn't justify the expenditure. 85% of the Italian population has
ADSL access and screw the rest of us, they say. There are all sorts of
laws to encourage rural industry, but I suppose they think industry
can survive without broadband internet service.

I wonder if wireless might not be the solution? They've done this in
some parts of south America where wired broadband isn't possible.
Usually a satellite system as the central point, then a system of wifi
transmitters. Don't know, might be worth bringing up at the next town
hall meeting. :)
