Does anybody use a white noise machine to filter or mask the various hotel noises while trying to sleep? I have found I tend to hear every creak, every step outside in the hallway, etc., at night and it occurred to me that a white noise machine might help block those little noises.

I just take a couple sets of earplugs. (Always seem to lose some
somewhere along the way.)

That's assuming you can actually SLEEP with foreign objects in your ears! (I can't, which is why I am so fond of "sound machines".)

But you can sleep with the sound from the machine added to other disturbing noise ??

Not "added", but "masking"! Ocean waves, songbirds, crickets or frogs...... Yes, I find those sounds more soothing than voices (or creaking beds or flushing toilets) in neighboring rooms. (And ANY foreign object in my ears would guarantee I'd not sleep a wink all night - even ordinary stereo headsets which fit over, not into, are uncomfortable after a very short period of time.) We all have our idiosyncracies, what's "soothing" to one is annoying to another. For me, a soothing sounds gadget is a "must" for travel, so I recommend it when asked.
