It's not a good idea to pronounce with certitude in a matter in which,
as Ken said, it's a matter of how you use the words. People generally
use "Italy" to refer to the Italian Republic.
And if someone says, "Canada is in America." they will be perfectly correct
but many people will jump on them because they generally use "America" to
mean the USA.
So it's best not to invite confusion, and find another way of
expressing it. I would say that Canada is in North America.
