I remember reading some travel advice before going to Thailand which
advised that it was a good idea to phrase questions in such a way that a
'yes' or 'no' wasn't possible, as Thai's found it very hard to say 'no'
to a question. A couple of times, we had a taxi driver take us to the
wrong place- we don't think they were trying to take us to their uncle's
restaurant either. Paradoxically (or maybe not) I found them to be very
honest people!
