There are dozens of walled cities in Italy, and hundreds of walled
small towns. The walls of Lucca are especially nice, as an example of
city walls, although they are later than medieval. (I think they were
last reconstructed in the 18th century.)
As an example of a walled small town, I have to mention Corinaldo (in
Le Marche), where I live. However, in Le Marche, there are more walled
towns than towns without walls. Some of the walls have been partially
removed to allow traffic flow. The walls of Corinaldo are particularly
well preserved, and date mostly from the 14th and 15th centuries.
