It was only one of the things. The main thing we hated was that the ship was so

Bob doesn't like having thousands of pax overwhelming little Caribbean
islands that would be very peaceful and laid back if there were less
people pouring off the ship.

It's easy to get the impression that there's little Bob cares for.

He's always been a very good travel companion -he's just gotten a
little grumpy lately. I likes cruising on our boat, but he wants me
to do more, and to go places that I'm not willing to do/go. He wants
to leave from the Chesapeake in Nov and sail down to the islands, and
I won't go with just the 2 of us and he won't have someone else to go
with us. So we are at a stalemate. He doesn't mind driving to
places, and he likes to see the things that I usually pick out to see.

Perhaps you should find someone else to cruise with, someone who
enjoys it.

I'm going to have to do that. I've done one cruise with a grandchild
and have another one booked.

But one of the places I want to go is Hawaii and another one is
Alaska. The problem with taking a grandchild there is that the others
have gone to Europe and I want to be fair and give them similar
opportunities.. I only have one who is so familiar with Europe that I
could logically take him to Alaska, and he doesn't want to go.

I'd like to do another cruise in the Med but it is too hot for me in
the summer and the kids are in school in the spring. (Also there
wouldn't be other kids there so much at that time.)

I think one of them would have liked to do the cruise we were just on
(through the Panama Canal and down to Peru and back), but she would
have had to be out of school for 5 weeks or she would have had to fly
down by herself. IMHO it would be OK to do that if the child is in
middle school [as a former middle school teacher I feel that middle
school is pretty much inferior to a trip] and I let my kids travel
with my mom in October. But my kids were all good students and I
think it is harder to do that now.

When our color was called there was a long line to get off. It was
standing in this line that Bob remarked that he was never going on
another cruise. The terminal was very crowded and chaotic. We had a
rental car but we couldn't get on the rental car bus and had to pay
for a bus to take us to the airport to pick up the car.

I think the key to having a good disembarcation is not having to be
anywhere at a fixed time. Wait until everyone else is out of the way,
and the process is much more pleasant.

We didn't have any fixed time. We were just picking up a rental car
and we told them that. But they wouldn't let us wait in the cabin
(which both HAL and NCL have explicitly allowed - where we have access
to our own bathroom) and it was NOT pleasant waiting elsewhere. It
was after 10:30 when we got off. It was just the last straw of the
bale.

I realize that I never posted the pictures I took of the ship - they
aren't of the quality of the pictures I normally post, but I put some
up last night at http://www.cruisemates.com/gallery/view.php?id=4967
The first one was the (IMHO) depressing picture outside our cabin.

The HAL cruise we just took, we were off the boat within about an hour
after breakfast and we could use the bathroom in the cabin -
everything was pretty smooth and easy.

These are the pictures of that ship
