Dear Jean,
Having experienced what some people now
consider to be "carry on" as they tried to stow it
first in the overhead and then under the seat in
front of them, I think it is time to ban anything
larger than a regular shoe box as "carry on" and
to provide secure containers to put the rest of
the stuff into, to be claimed at the door when
they leave. Then the containers can be placed with
the rest of the luggage and everyone will be happier.
Just add the cost of the luggage, etc. to the
cost of the trip, have a couple of stiff preflight
libations, and sit back and relax.

If they take my laptop or other electronics, they better guarantee I
get it back and in the same condition it was the last time I had it.
available, and you would have to get out of line
and demonstrate full functionality of the
equipment to another "well trained" TSA / Airline
agent pair.(:+}=
Of course, you could get one of the Folding
Notebooks that would fit into the shoebox! (;+}=

In the third quarter of 2001 I made 7 trips, a total of 25 legs. At
the time, you were frequently required to turn on your laptop. Well,
I was traveling with one Windows box and two Linux boxes. So I'd say
"yes sir" and light them up. Then the dweeb would say "okay, thank
you". And I'd wait. "you can turn them off now". "Sorry sir, I
can't. I have to wait for them to finish booting and then shut them
down properly". NOTE: This was frequently done at BOTH the screener
and at the gate.
