You will not need an adapter on the Princess ship as the stateroom current is
110V and 60 Hz. The newer charging systems are dual capable 110/60 or 240/50 so
all you may need in Italy is a plug adapter. If not then you may need a
transformer as well. You might as well go ahead and get a full kit anyway cause
most of them come with a wide range of adapters in addition to the transformer.
As regards Memory Cards, better to take several cards with you. Reason is that
if a card goes bad on you you can pop a new one in and recover the pictures from
the bad card when you get home.
Almost always take the laptop with me. It is small and I just pack it in the big
suitcase and take it out only when I need it.
First time over with it I took the case and all the goodies as a carryon, what a
pain in the but. Now I just pack it and the cord.

Thanks everyone for your tips. Its a camcorder that has a sd card for
stills and uses miniDV cartridges. I'll bring plenty plus an extra battery
and the charger! Will I need a special converter adaptor thingy to plug
the charger in on the ship (Princess) I assume I would need one for the
hotels in Italy.

Digital still camera - The cards are pretty cheap. Just take extras with
you. On the cruise I took last year I had a 256meg SD card, and stored
something like 125 pictures on it, with quite a lot left over. This was a
5 megapixel camera, so your mileage will vary. The cards are a lot
cheaper now than last year, too.
Camcorder - Evidently you have some sort of digital camcorder. Is this one
of the cheap ones that store into internal memory, or possibly a
"cartridge", and expect you to send the image to a computer? There are
two major types of "quality" digital camcorders: the ones that record on
tape cartridges, such as Digital 8 or miniDV, and ones that record to a
rewritable DVD. Just take extra cartridges or mini DVD/R disks. Don't
forget the charger, and possibly an extra battery - more batteries are
expensive. Just last year I was in Vegas, and discovered I didn't have
any blank tapes with me. The hotel gift shop charged me for one tape
almost as much as I expect to pay for 3 - and I paid up with a smile.

Without having to take a laptop computer with you? I have a camcorder I
plan to use. Do I just buy a lot of cartridges for it? Normally I would
transfer what I take to the hard drive but don't want to lug a laptop
with me on a mediterranean cruise.
