Air travel scheduled by Carnival

My wife and I will be traveling to Italy on the 15th of July for a trip
on Carnival's Celebrity. We will be traveling on e-tickets issued by
Carnival. We will be with friend who live in Baton Rouge and used
their travel agent who was to schedule them out of Baton Rouge to
Atlanta then Rome and us Mobile (where we live) to Atlanta then Rome.
We have been scheduled to depart Baton Rouge and the travel agent tells
us Carnival will not change the flights, Carnival tells us the agent
can change the flight and Delta (the same airline for all legs of the
trip tells us it will cost us $1,000 per person to change the Baton
Rouge to Atlanta leg of the trip to Mobile to Atlanta. I am willing to
pay a $100 or so per person to keep from driving 3 1/2 hours west to
come back to the east.
In May when my wife and I went to Tahiti on Regent Seven Seas they
charged us $100.00 per person to make a change to our flight schedule,
but $1,000!!!!!!!
Maybe this type of service is why Zacks has Carnival's stock rated so
low.
Have any of you had similar experiences or do you have any suggestions
short of not using Carnival or the travel agent?
.
