No, Hawaii is in the tropics. We are below 23 degrees and so are
definitely in the tropics not sub-tropics.
23°30'/23.5° S latitude. The equator is zero and the latitudes go up
from there. Honolulu, Hawaii is between 23N and the equator at 21°18
It's Key West that is sub tropical. Most of the state has a humid
subtropical climate, with the extreme tip of Florida and especially
the Florida Keys bordering on a true tropical climate. Key West
latitude is 24°33'
