To Whom It May Concern:
We came across this information in the trades, in the form of a press
release, and thought it would be of interest to this newsgroup as well.
The Italian shipyard of Fincantieri has signed a contract to build a
seven-deck motor yacht of 460 feet, which would be the second-largest
privately owned modern yacht in the world. The ordered yacht is roughly the
same size as some of the most intimate cruise vessels -- Seabourn ships are
440 feet long while SeaDream Yacht Club's are 344 feet long. Last year,
Fincantieri announced its entrance into the mega-yacht industry and shortly
afterwards created the Fincantieri Yachts division. The order was placed
through Camper & Nicholsons International, a brokerage company on the
mega-yacht market. Fincantieri did not disclose the name of the owner.
Scheduled for delivery in 2010, the yacht will be designed and built
according to the rules and regulations of SOLAS, the International
Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea. Key features will include two
helicopter landing platforms (one with a hangar), storage for a large
submarine, an internal sea water pool that can be also used for tender
docking; and 30,000 square feet of luxury interior space.
Happy sailing,
John Sisker
