Oceania Cruises Puts Libya Back on 2007 Schedule

To Whom It May Concern:

We came across this information in the trades, in the form of a press
release, and thought it would be of interest to this newsgroup as well.

Oceania Cruises has put Libya back on its 2007 schedule, just two weeks
after the U.S. resumed full diplomatic relations with the nation. Oceania
and other cruise lines that had made a few calls to Libya found themselves
scrambling last year when a diplomatic flap caused Libya to refuse to issue
visas to U.S. citizens on cruises. "We had four cruises where we had to
cancel Libya calls and extensively revise the itineraries as a result of the
diplomatic problems, and they were our four fastest-selling cruises ever,"
said Oceania spokesman Tim Rubacky. "The normalizing of diplomatic relations
means that will no longer be the case, and Americans are welcome. I do
believe the entry requirements means Americans must be hosted, much as is
the case in St. Petersburg, on ship-sponsored excursions or private
arrangements with tour operators in Libya. We don't expect that to change."
Oceania's Regatta will operate the Libya cruise, a 10-day voyage that
departs April 17 from Barcelona and concludes in Athens. Ports of call
include Mahon, Spain; Cagliari, Italy; La Goulette, Tunisia; Tripoli and
Benghazi, Libya; Monemvasia and Santorini, Greece. For a limited time,
Oceania is offering free airfare and 2-for-1 cruise fares beginning at
$2,299 per guest. In Libya, tourists have the chance to explore what are
considered some of the finest ancient sites found in the western world. In
Tripoli, visitors often choose to explore Leptis Magna, which was founded in
the 1st millennium BC and contains the largest bath house built outside
Rome, or the ancient Roman city of Sabratha, a UNESCO World Heritage Site
which served as a Phoenician trading-post. Benghazi is Libya's second
largest city, situated on the eastern edge of the Gulf of Sirt. A short
distance outside of the city are many historic sites including the ancient
Greek city of Cyrene. For more information, call 800-531-5658 or visit
