Re: Cruiser leaps to death in front of wife and kids

Perhaps he finally got the bar tab at the end of the sailing and decided it
would be better to jump !

To Whom It May Concern:

We came across this information in the trades, in the form of a press
release, and thought it would be of interest to this newsgroup as well.

A cruise ship passenger's leap into the ocean near the British Virgin
Islands spawned a futile search but also bogged down thousands of
vacationers.

An unidentified man went overboard from the Carnival Legend as it was on
its way back to New York.

A 12-hour search failed to find the man but many passengers arrived late
for flights and trains taking them home.

Rattled passengers who disembarked the ship on Manhattan's West Side told
the New York Daily News that the man jumped to his death in front of his
wife and two of their children. They were having an argument.

After the man was seen jumping overboard, the captain notified 3,000
guests and crew members that the ship was dropping anchor for a
search-and-rescue mission.

It could be justified by saying that immersing into hyperspace breaks all the ship's quantum connections to the rest of the Universe and emerging re-establishes them all at once, which manifests at the macro level as a pseudo-EMP internal to the ship and an inverse-square radiated EMP external to it (maybe accompanied by showers of virtual ... radiated component of the effect and focus it in a preferred direction; they don't actually have to hit a target, just emerge close enough to wax its electronics. ... the energy of the EMP is quite plausibly a factor of the energy required to make the jump, which can plausibly be determined largely by the mass of the ship and the distance travelled. ...
