dropping the pilot
i am sure you are right and i am sure that they were not allowed on the
bridge when it was being piloted. when it is sitting, waiting is another
story. there's a lot of area for them to be taken on a tour of.

As someone who has many-times been invited to be on the ship's bridge
for extended times, I have always been asked to leave when approaching
US ports and prior to the arrival of the pilot [for what I understood to
be both insurance and procedural reasons].
As was just seen with the QM2 accident, navigating when the pilot is on
board is a unique time that requires very careful attention [and a
visitor -- especially a child -- could be most distracting].
