I just use the news server in Outlook Express, signing on to rec.travel.cruises. I have tried Google and others and find OE to be the most versatile and lightweight of any. I just use Googlegroups to search for an old post.

The problem is that some internet providers (like AOL, and MSN IIRC) don't have newsgroup availability... so even if you have/use Outlook Express, you can't get newsgroups if there is no newsgroup server to tie into.

I use Outlook Express and it works fine. I used to use Netscape back when it was in the 4.4 - 4.8 series. I don't care for the newer series as much. So now I use Outlook and Internet Explorer. It isn't great but I get by. We use Thunderbird at work and I don't like it that much.

I didn't like the previous version of Thunderbird and uninstalled it. There is supposedly a new user friendly version 1.5 available at www.mozilla.com. I love Firefox but still use OE for email and newsgroups.

Bill,

You'll like TB 1.5 it is more user friendly. Less tweaking of the prefs.js via user.js file is needed. As for speed, I find that experimenting with Themes / Skins can improve performance in some cases.
