Most cruiseships today have all Diesel Electric drive.
Either direct thru propeller shaft or thru Azipots.
Its a lot more reliable to have 6 diesels generate 12.5 or 25 Kv to a
switchboard and have a few electric motors propel the ship. then to have
diesels go thru a reduction gear and reverse system.
