Star Princess ((Western Caribbean) 11/6/2005

There will only be ONE itinerary change. The ship will stop at
Costa Maya (aka Majahual) instead of Cozumel, on Nov 9.

Boarding was supposed to start at 1 pm., but on the cruise in
Sept on the Golden Princess, when I got to the pier at noon,
boarding had already started and there was no waiting line and
I whizzed right through and finished lunched before 1 pm.

This time, I had a choice of shuttle time and I chose 11:30 from
the hotel, even though boarding wasn't supposed to start until
1 pm. When I got to the pier, shortly before noon, there was
already a line of at least 300 passengers, lined up outside the
pier, wrapped around the length of the entire pier.

So, the first thing I looked for was the Platinum line which is
expected to be much shorter. Alas, this has to be chalked up
as a "screw up" by the Princess staff, because the line doesn't
split until one enters the first door -- which means if there are
280 non-Platinum in line, and 20 Platinum, I would have to get
behind all 300, and join the 20 only after entry into the single
door to enter the pier -- whereas TWO separate lines of entry
(one Platinum; one non-Platinum) would have been a
logical "no brainer" for anyone except whoever arranged for the
boarding for the 2,600 passengers this morning.

At any rate, I am NOT going to tell how I got on the ship and
finished lunch by 1 pm without screaming bloody murder for the
Captain. If anyone should ask, I would have to make up some
story and call it "Believe It Or Not" (which acknowledges that it's
either true OR false). So, don't bother to ask.

But everything in this post is true. :-)

After lunch, I went to the Purser's Desk to find out the new
itinerary and half-way looking for a suite upgrade if there were
many cancellations this week. The ship was COMPLETELY
SOLD OUT (as of 1 pm). So, I have to settle for my mini-suite
with a balcony, which is not entirely shabby. Furthermore, it's
right at the elevator to the Lido deck buffet, and it would be
faster to walk up (and down) that one flight of stairs than waiting
for an elevator to go one floor.

So, my week's exercise will be mostly walking to mid-ship to
the dining rooms, casino, theater, and of course this room. :-)
Normally the internet room doesn't start operation until the ship
sails in the evening. But it's working already. So, I am filing
this short report before taking a siesta and rest up for the
activities the rest of the cruise.

Buenas tardes,

-- Bob.
