FWIW, the director of the Port of New Orleans was quoted yesterday saying
that it would be at least 3 or 4 months before the cruise port could be
operational again. It looks like damage to the terminal building is minimal
but the building and dock area may be needed for other things. On the news
last night I saw a picture of what looked like a small aircraft carrier
docked at the cruise terminal.
Another thought is that if FEMA decides to use cruise ships as temporary
housing for relief workers, they will want those ships in New Orleans and
possible along the Riverwalk pier and cruise terminal dock.
Carnival has announced that none of their ships will depart from New Orleans
for the indefinite future. NCL will move the Norwegian Sun to the Port of
Houston (not Galveston) until January and then move it to Florida.
