If you have never been to the Third World before, chances are you will
be overwhelmed by the poverty, heat, pollution and scams. India is a
much more difficult destination for an inexperienced traveler than
somewhere like Thailand or Morocco.

I'm always astonished by Europeans in their twenties walking about India in
dark coloured 'combat' shorts and a 'heavy metal' T-shirt, often seen
carrying a huge back-pack, who seem amazed that the locals treat them as a
sort of walking wallet.

On the other hand if you make a small effort to speak a word or two of the
local language and dress in a suitable/acceptable manner (and hire someone
to carry your baggage) you'll find the locals are delighted and that their
English improves beyond all measure.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Barbeques on fire by the chalets past the castle headland
I watched the gift shops glitter in the darkness off the Newborough gate
All these moments will be lost in time, like icecream on the beach
Time for tea.
