decent maps covering the entire kingdom in scale essentially larger than
1:1000.000. Definitely you don't get them in "most 7-11 stores".

You can get decent road maps in Thailand and most 7-11 stores. Pick
your 7-11 store in Bangkok. I'll meet your there tomorrow and show
you.
