I'll take the other side on this issue. I'm surprised airlines
continue to serve peanuts because there is an increase in severe (i.e.
potentially fatal) peanut allergies in children.

Airplanes are such tight and closed cabins with poor ventilation. I
think it's just a matter of time before we have the first death of a
child from a peanut allergic reaction on an airplane. The airline
would get their pants sued off. Why would they risk that? And in this
economy, I would think airlines would be switching to pretzels to save
money anyways.

It should be noted that the "nuts" served on the airline in question are a
mixture (which after all the earlier fooferaw) NOT containing peanuts. Most
airlines have switched to pretzels are those packets of some nasty mixture
of dog biscuits and salted breakfast cereal.

Further, anyone but a galumphing simple-wit would know that peanuts are not
nuts at all, but a legume, filled with potential sources of allergies of a
quite different sort than plain old "nuts"

As for getting your pants "sued off", I will continue to bring my peanuts
and trail mix aboard, so let that be a warning to all parents with children
subject to peanut allergies.... Don't Fly With Me!
