WGP 2007
Tomorrow starts the final round of the World Grand Prix competition. With
China as organizing country, following 5 best placed teams will participate.
Brazil Italy Russia Poland and the Netherlands. Both Cuba and the USA were
eliminated, the USA in a final deciding match against the Netherlands. This
is rather particular for Cuba as it has been on average by far the strongest
attacking team. The result can possibly explained by the still rather
orthodox way in playing with two setters but in particular by the very
limited use of the libero Both in digging and receiving errors Cuba showed
the worst performance. Brazil has made strong impression but lost a final
match against Italy. Both Poland and the Netherlands who started very poor
recovered during the competition and finally secured a place in the final.
China lost 5 matches over the total competition and has by far not the
strength of the former Olympic Champion The final will therefore be open
and will most probably be decided by Italy Brazil or Russia. The Russians
have a strong team but played very irregular with losses against Poland and
the USA
