Re: AE bike

I think what Kris is saying is that if the sport is to grow, we need
more distribution outlets than AE Bikes. It's simply not sustainable
for one outfit to vastly undercut all the other retailers. At that
rate, AEBike would eventually have a monopoly, their prices would
eventually shoot up for lack of competition, and then other
distributors would ease back into the marketplace. Better to to sell at
a fair price from the start and keep the distribution in many hands.

That much said, Terry's comment is well taken - never pay full retail
price. However, unicycle sales are demostratively lower than just
about any other sporting product - it's a wonder that something as
bomber as a KH 24 Freeride is available for so cheap a price. As many
have frequently said, even entry level mountain bikes are about a
grand.

True, but remember a [stock] MTB more than three times the components of
a [stock] uni; gears, chain, brakes, cables, shifters, handlebars,
sprockets, two rims, two tires, two tubes, a huge frame...all these
things boost the price.

So let AE sell at a lower price; it doesn't have to be as crazy low as
it was, but just low enough that it sparks the other uni distributors
to lower their prices a bit. They can still make very healthy profits
by selling *below* the msrp. And by lowering their prices, more people
will buy, so their profits would actually be HIGHER overall! :)

Again, if there were lots of uni distributors out there like udc, you
can easily bet that overall prices would be lower, at least *below* the
MSRP!
