I am not trying to start a sexism argument, but am curious what people think
(objectively) about how a top female pro tennis playe will do against:
A top pro (i think there will be consensus here)
A pro outside the top 100
A pro who plays mostly challenger and satellite matches
A Div 1 collegiate player
A Div 2 collegiate player
and so forth...
Men are physically stronger, have more stamina, mentally stronger than
women and also more athletic. I am talking about comparision between
the most fit men vs most fit women. Women are more flexible and (may
be) more diverse in their playing style.
Unfortunately being more flexible is not enough. Phsyical Strength,
stamina, mental strength and better athleticism trumps flexibility.
Among the female athletes I have seen, only Steffi Graf could probably
even win a couple games against a world No.1. She could have won a
couple games against the like of her peer #1s Lendl, Wilander, Edberg,
Becker, Sampras and Agassi. She could have probably won 4 games
against Courier. Thats all I can think of. Her best game was between
1986-1996 and these were the top players during that time. So thats
why I made the comparision.
Steffi would've won a couple of games off Lendl, Wilander, Edberg,
Becker, Sampras and Agassi and 4 games off peak Courier?
Truth is peak Steffi would've been lucky to win 4 points off Peak
Courier, let alone 4 games. To give you an idea, when Davenport was
ranked number 1 in the world, she admitted she never beat her forty
some year old coach, who was only a journeyman in the ATP.
What you dont realize is that you can win games off opponents unforced
errors. Peak Steffi was quick and had a bigger forehand than Courier,
Oh Raja... Steffi had a bigger forehand than Courier...? She might win
a few points because of double faults and some unforced errors, but a
good male pro wouldn't do many errors, because he could play it safe.
It seems like you don't have any idea about the difference. We have
had this discussion many times (though not very recently). The
consensus is there are at least couple of thousand men who would beat
#1 woman (maybe a bit less who would beat #2 woman :-))
And of course I am a fan of women's tennis more than most people here.
I have to disagree. Connors and McEnroe played against each other. And
Connors won 6-4 or something. It cannot be that easy for men if the
female opponent is really good.- Hide quoted text -

Is McEnroe a girl?
Seriously, it seems as if you've never played competitive tennis. I
have hit with both male and female pros and the difference is
staggering. Not necessarily in the way they hit the ball - some girls
hit as hard as guys - but the heaviness of the ball, the mobility, the
angles, etc, gives you so little to work with. The biggest servers in
the WTA like the Williams and Sharapova will find it almost impossible
to service winners against guys, and their 2nd serves will get eaten
alive.
Sistahs suck... they wont win a game. I am talking about peak Steffi.
She could take 4 games of the likes of Courier in a 3 setter. The
Sharapova of AO 2008 could win a couple games against Courier.- Hide quoted text -

Hard to argue with someone who does not even play tennis.
Go learn to play first and post your thoughts in 20 years. You might
change your mind then.
