One that takes into account how well a player did on average in all
slams over their entire career.

Something like:

0 points for losing in R1
1 points for losing in R2
2 points for losing in R3
3 points for losing in R4
4 points for losing in QF
5 points for losing in SF
6 points for losing in F
7 points for winning

Sum up all the points for all slams played and then
divide by the number of slams played.

This will give a benchmark as to a players overall slam performance
and not just wins. It will also penalize him for early round losses.

I'd love to see this number and how it compares for Borg, Federer and
Sampras.

Winning isn't the only thing you see.

A player who wins 14 slams and loses 8X in R1/R2 is not as good as
anpther player who wins 14 slams and loses 8X in the final !

This list makes no sense, as only titles matter.
However, we can make this list and try to establish who was most consistant
in slams.

R1 - 1 (appearing in a round 1 of a slam event means something, 0 is for
those who lose in Q)
R2 - 2
R3 - 3
R4 - 5
QF - 8
SF - 13
RU - 21
W - 34

That sequence looks not bad to me and it captures the key feature: the
difference between every two rounds should increase toward the top and
those numbers seem to fit intuition at least. Yes, should have a

I am not say how to generate this sequence, I mean are there explicit
reasons behind why those numbers are good under current situation.
