holy crap stephen, look at the motivation people have.
commentators make their living announcing TODAY's tennis.
they absolutely need interest in today's tennis. so they build up today's stars as much as possible.

it's not just announcers who say fed > sampras (and btw, one of the very few that doesn't is announcer- bud collins), it's just about everyone - other greats, tennis writers, etc.

that said, fed's #'s and accomplishments have him with 14 slams, just like pete.
he has something pete didn't - +1 FO, +1 AO.
pete has something fed doesn't - +2 Wimbleons.

that's like say you and i both have wives, and yours is angie jolie and mine is roseanne barr. we're "tied" at 1 wife each, but ....

ok, the gap isn't that great, but it's clearly in fed's favor nonetheless. CGS clearly trumps 2 Ws/1 Ao 1fo comparison. sorry about that ...
