I'd disagree with that. He's made it pretty plain that he cultivated a boring outward personality to avoid distractions, and reports from people who've interviewed him make it plain that he's got a pretty good sense of humor when he wants to.
As for not doing anything after retirement - it's hardly surprising if you're someone who started pursuing world class excellence in one particular thing when you were only a few years old. I don't see why he doesn't deserve a few years of goofing off, playing with his kids, planning his new house, and so on.
What did Connors do in the first five years after he retired? Or McEnroe? Or Becker? What does Edberg do *now*? McEnroe has eventually become a very good TV commentator. But look at the tennis greats and tell me how many, since the big money came in, have put together solid second careers?
