gifted... :)))
P
is Fed is not close to Mac's pure genius. Roger is far more robotic &
wooden at the net where true genius/reflex skills are required - he
simply
doesn't have it. You're comparing him in the context of last 5 yrs - yes
in that context he is amazing, but don't insult true tennis fans &
compare
him to the pure genius of McEnroe.
playing
different style of tennis. Mac was absolute sucks at baseline which one of
the
main reason why he was not effective after 26. Aggressive players that
came
after mac's generation had more complete game than Mac ever had. Mac is
a genius but his game is also limited.
and often got the better of him in the first two sets. Baseline
wasn't his strength, but it's an oversimplification to say he sucked
there.
Give us a reason why he was not able to trade blow for blow with Lendl after
84 then ?
How many time did Mac lost to Lendl after 84 before he could register a win.
As far as I know he lost something like 15 matches before he could win 1.
It
is simple to say he was declining but the truth is Lendl was about the same
age
as Mac, what made the difference was lendl actually started to return Mac's
server
better and he improved his backhand and serve and Lendl took the physical
training
in the game to another level. The aggressive players that came after Mac
were also
much better athletes than Mac was and they had better rounded game than Mac.- Hide quoted text -

Federer. I won three Wimbledon titles and I wish I could play like
him."
John McEnroe
2. "Oh, I would be honoured to even be compared to Roger. He is such
an unbelievable talent, and is capable of anything. Roger could be the
greatest tennis player of all time."
Rod Laver
3. "Roger's got too many shots, too much talent in one body. It's
hardly fair that one person can do all this—his backhands, his
forehands, volleys, serving, his court position. The way he moves
around the court, you feel like he's barely touching the ground.
That's the sign of a great champion.
Rod Laver, 2007
4. "The best way to beat him would be to hit him over the head with a
racquet. Roger could win the Grand Slam if he keeps playing the way he
is and, if he does that, it will equate to the two Grand Slams that I
won because standards are much higher these days."
Rod Laver, 2007
5. "I've never enjoyed watching someone playing tennis as much as
Federer. I'm just in awe. Pete Sampras was wonderful but he relied so
much on his serve, whereas Roger has it all, he's just so graceful,
elegant and fluid—a symphony in tennis whites."
Tracy Austin
6. "Roger Federer is the most talented tennis player I have ever seen.
He has the capacity to become the greatest in history."
Nick Bollettieri
7. "Roger Federer is the only guy I watch for his strokes. He is just
beautiful. He can hit every single shot you could ever think of. John
[McEnroe] and Ilie [Nastase] were very talented but you always knew
there were some shots they couldn't hit. Not with Federer. I would go
and watch him practice, he's so good."
Ivan Lendl
8. "I thought Ellsworth Vines and Don Budge were pretty good. And
Gonzalez and Hoad could play a bit, too, but I have never seen anyone
play the game better than Federer. He serves well and has a great half-
volley. I've never known anyone who can do as many things on a court
as he can."
Jack Kramer
9. "Roger Federer is the most talented player I ever saw."
Fred Stolle
Just some views... there are a lot more...
P
Sampras fanboy.
point in discussing this with hardcore Fedfuckers - you must be able to
see why?
Those guys Kramer, Laver and Stolle must not have seen any tennis
prior to a few years ago - such a pity that haven't seen any of the
greats of the last 50 years playing ...
What can be done if Federer's game is so timeless and amazing that multiple tennis generations all the way from the 1930s to the present time have fallen into the ceibs trap? :D
Whisper is busy tearing at a supreme talent who has won 13 slams in 6 years in a futile attempt to build up his hero who took more than 10 years to accomplish the same feat.
If Whisper continues on his current path, even bob may start calling him an idiot. That will be the day we find out that bob is permitted to have an independent opinion!
