Uh, *yeah*. Plus, there's that wacky German habit of making all those
compoundwords, which are really hard to separate if you're not used to it.
I find German pretty difficult to read.

erm ... i find it easier than french. chinese surprisingly is one of
the easiest once you know the basic pictograms (like 2000 or so). do
you know that a japanese and a chinese can read the same newspaper but
can't speak to each other ? weird eh ?
I have heard that chinese has been simplified recently and many
young chinese can not read classic chinese symbols anymore and
as a result are losing contact with a form of writing that hasn't
changed in hundreds of years.
