Well, the people who have actually played on the surface in both
90s
and 2000s (eg Henman) have commented that the courts play a lot
slower.

but henman types are guys who are top level pros who will catch
minute
differences and to them it might seem like a lot..what i'm talking
about
is this: do you think Wimbledon will play like Hamburg this yr? or
like a
tad slower version of 90s grass? this is very small stuff, not
enough
stuff to advantage hewitt types over ivanisevic types..

Watching people play on a court gives you far less feel for how
fast
it
plays than actually playing on it.

Definitely. I do believe Henman when he speaks. He doesn't come
across
as
a bullshitter or complainer. If he says there's a difference,
there's a
difference.

We don't see it on tv because the pros adjust their stroke timing
accordingly: swing a tad faster or slower, getting in rhythm with
the
pace
of the court.

Goran did well on the new grass because his serve goes through
anything.
And Hewitt can pick the ball up on any quick surface, period.

Probably better to ask someone like Agassi, who's played ample old
and
new
grass tennis to know.

problem with that is do you think agassi can actually remember enough
of

yrs ago to compare it to this yr? i don't see the accuracy of it at

Agassi has actually played on the surface, both old and knew....but
what would he know.....he should clearly bow to the wisdom of boob on
all tennis-related issues...........

if you ask agassi how LAST yr's wimbledon compares to THIS yr's, fine


LOL, given that Agassi hasn't played Wimbledon for three years, surely
asking him that would be a bad idea?

don't go asking a guy how it played 6-7 yrs ago and expect him to be able
to
compare it to today..too many other variables get into the equation..

Like what? The chracteristics e.g. high or low bounce and pace, should
be easy enough to recall....

2 problems:
1) memory
2) there are variables that change and you don't recognize it as time
passes..also the players you play against are different..if agassi played
henman in 99 and henman in 2004 and neither aged and neither had memory loss
and the weather was exact same for whole tournament and all the matches
started at the same time of day and THEN agassi said it's much different,
then you could believe it more..this isn't a knock on agassi or your post,
just that nobody could make a relevant comparison of that type given the
variables and OTHER changes..remember, these are tennis players, not rocket
scientists..look at shaq, if he says staples center "plays differently" than
when was there 7 yrs ago, do you take that to the bank? i wouldn't..i'd say
it was a long time ago and lots of things change in people's MINDS..for ex i
recently visited my college, and the same building that i recall from 20 yrs
ago hasn't changed a bit obviously, but it sure isn't exactly how i
remembered it..
