I am interested in the stroke mechanics as well. I see people in the pool
swimming the front crawl with their heads out of the water, and, charitably,
I think that they are just used to open water swimming. Is that the way one
has to maneuver to swim in the open water where they are likely to be
swells? The last time I tried the front crawl in a lake was in Lake Texoma,
a lake large enough to have a tidal effect complete with undertows. There
were natural swells that were augmented by the motor boats passing by.
It seems to me that if I were to swim with my head out of the water, I would
soon tire. And yet, how to see where you're going when there are swells?
Just life your head every so often?
