Copa do Brasil to be expanded

It'll go from 64 to 86 clubs, and will again include the clubs qualified to the Libertadores. 14 states had a raise in their allocation. I haven't seen any mention to the schedule, but it'll be played over seven rounds and, I guess, should enter well into the second semester (ie, it should become a full-season tournament).

There'll also be changes to the Brasilian qualifiers to Copa Sudamericana. We won't have the "national" round any longer, so the amount of representatives will be trimmed from 8 to 4. The qualified clubs will be the best ones that didn't make the Libertadores, according to the previous season league table (so far so good...), but that aren't in the Copa do Brasil anymore by the time the Sudamericana starts. Since there was no word about the schedule, I have no idea which round of Copa do Brasil we'll be by then. Here's hoping it's at least the quarterfinals, so that we won't eventually need to dig relegated clubs to send into South American expeditions - which could be a likely case if there's still 16 survivors by the deadline.

In fact, here's REALLY hoping it'll be so, the Sudamericana has been a very nice tournament for a while already, no one needs Brasil eventually devaluing it, like it was done to the old Copa Conmebol of the 90's. But in this case, unwise as it may sound, I guess we can count on the good sense of CBF or the clubs? Copa Sudamericana gives its winner a Libertadores spot, after all...
